CADISCA is a collective of owners of self-catering accommodation in Cornwall and Devon.

The collective upholds the ethos of ‘book-direct’ and the aspiration to be safe and legal in order to provide a professional and reassuring service and to sustain this independent travel sector.

Principles

  • CADISCA will act as an industry ambassador for the independent self-catering accommodation sector in Cornwall and Devon, providing a democratic mouthpiece for its members.
  • CADISCA is not in competition with the Professional Association of Self-Caterers (PASC), which we fully support.
  • CADISCA will work to establish a fairer competitive environment within the industry ensuring that independent traders are able to trade on a more even footing with much larger online travel agencies.
  • CADISCA will aim to support its members in the ethos of ‘book direct’ in order to maintain the independent market sector.
  • CADISCA will aim to raise awareness of legal requirements and regulations pertinent to the industry sector.
  • CADISCA intends to operate its association on sound democratic principles, to this end, once association membership reaches a critical mass, a representative board will be elected.

Membership

  • CADISCA membership is open to owners of self-catering accommodation in Cornwall and/or Devon who embrace taking bookings direct by having their own fully independent website. Their website must have an integrated specialist booking system.
  • The intention is that association membership will be free of charge. It is likely that some money will need to be raised to meet overheads, how this will be done is yet to be determined.
  • Members will be able to advertise and respond to guest requests free of charge in the associated Facebook groups:
  • Cornwall & Devon Holidays Direct
  • Cornwall Holiday Homes from Owners
  • Bude Holiday Cottages Direct
  • It is also open to other groups who wish to join providing they meet the criteria
  • Members will be able to vote for candidates and to stand for election on the representative board.

CADISCA Statement on Proposals for Compulsory Registration Scheme

  • CADISCA is principally in favour of a national ‘Safe and Legal’ accommodation registration scheme provided that any such scheme;
  • Uses a robust and fair development process, encompassing the whole industry voice.
  • Does not place an undue financial burden on accommodation owners.
  • Is a limited registration scheme and not a licencing scheme.
  • Has a vigorous method to ensure that all accommodation owners would be wholly unable to trade without registration if any registration were implemented.
  • Establishes broad market awareness and customer demand for any such scheme prior to implementation.
  • Uses only official Government established bodies to run any scheme.
